Cloud Chamber

2 long tracks.

CD by Pedal Records

Vinyl by ArchiveCD

Scott from Archive told me:

i might buy some for distro.. but pedal records come through Inoxia for wholesale as well and i dont think they'll really be any cheaper and i like you am not keen on a $27 single CD at least the daymare once are double CD's and really nice looking..

BTW i'm suppose to be doing the LP version of this.. i've had it for some time and have been screwing around with it for a number of reasons. the content is good and unlike the other collabs with Kurihara in that it's not "songs" per say but 2 long noisy tracks it's good though.. currently looks like it will be a split label release with essence records and we dont have a time table right now.. a bunch of details we need to square away first

Just gave this a good listen. US version. Differences:

1> Flower Sun Rain

The Japanese version ends with a refrain of the chorus without backing instruments. This version has an extended solo provided by Kurihara at the end that immediately segues into...

2> Buzz-In

Guitar tone sounds way better. No other changes were immediately apparent.

3> Laser Beam

The kitschy Postal Service style electronica is replaced with the band, and the song benefits from it greatly. I think the little acoustic part at the end is cut off a bit, but I don't remember for sure.

4> Statement

The wanky dance music stuff is, again, gone, and just like above the song is better because of it. Probably the one song that is the most different from the Japanese version.

5> My Neighbor Satan

Largely the same.

6> Ka Re Ha Te Ta Sa Ki No Ones Grieve

Again, largely the same, but this is an amazing track no matter what album you hear it on.

7 You Were Holding an Umbrella

Largely the same.

I find that the SL version of the album did a better production job. Before I was scared of doing massive damage to my speakers with the other version. Everything in the mid range was too high in the mix and rattled my speakers.

The SL version also did a better job of song transitions. For example, track 7 on the DIW version. When it goes from the more ambient part to the big riff that introduces that really cool sounding solo, before the big droning riff hits there is about a second or two of silence. The SL version segues into the different parts of the song better. It also has the guitar higher in the mix and the bass leveled a bit. Same thing for the transition between the first track and second track as well.

Haven't listened to Umbrella part 2 yet. Didn't care for it on the DIW release, so I wasn't in a hurry to listen to it on the SL version.

My interpretaion:
Looks like there will be a 7" released thru SL late Feb, B4 'Smile'.
That is the cover for it above it seems.
Two new/exclusive songs.
The 7 " version of 'Floorshaker' (not on 'Smile') and different mix of a song called Message' which is on 'Smile'...( I think)
No mention of price or pressing amounts. (...probably 1000 ?)

And a 12" released thru Diwphalanx on 7th March.
With the same version of 'Message' as the SL 7".
Plus another new/exclusive track.
An 'earthquake inducing' dance remix of 'Floorshaker' mixed by Hiroshi Ishihara.
Limited to 1000.
Different artwork and a cost of approx $13US

So that's 3 exclusive songs/mixes over two formats.
Starting with SL late feb with a 7".
Then the 12" from Diwphalanx at the same time as the album release.
Which i believe is being pressed for vinyl by both SL (US) and Daymare (Japan).
